New and Improved "Baby Name Guide"
BNG BLOG
Like a new car, Baby Name Guide just upgraded its look and engine. First, we cleaned up the look of the website with a fresher, more appealing color palette. We also fine-tuned the HTML code and fixed any errors that the site might have had. The biggest change comes from the back end. The site is sitting on a new server. This means faster and more reliable service. It also means bigger improvements for the future, including more Baby Name Categories. We're going to launching five new categories, Hindu / Indian Baby Names being among them. We'll keep you posted on the releases.
The real BIG NEWS is the introduction of the "BNG Personalized Gift Items", which will be available soon. You will be able to create your own unique product using your child's name, date of birth and photo.
The Truth about the Name "Isabella"
BNG BLOG
Many websites claim that the name Isabella rose to the top of the most popular names for 2009 because of the movie Twilight. This is just not true. The name Isabella has been popular for about 10 years. Well before the movie. It's been on a upward climb ever since. Also, the character in the movie "Twilight" was named Bella, not Isabella, and the Social Security Administration takes each individual name into consideration, not different forms of names.

"Mother May I" Choose Your Baby's Name
BNG BLOG
I was thinking about the names that my wife and I chose for our three kids. And the more I thought of them, I realized that my wife and I never picked our last child's name. It was our oldest child who pushed for the name Daniel. I remember we came up with a list of about a half dozen names that we liked, but we couldn't decide which name was going to be THE name. My wife really liked David, and David is a great name. But... I actually was pushing towards a less popular name, Liam. I wanted something more original. So, my wife liked David and I like Liam. The name Daniel was in our list, too. We really never talked to much about the name Daniel until one day when Brooke our oldest child said, “I really like the name Daniel.” Joane, my wife and I never disliked the name Daniel, and that's why it was part of our narrowed list. I actually had two very good friends growing up that were named Daniel. Plus, no one in the family had a kid named Daniel. And that's one thing we always made sure of when we chose a name, “make sure no one in the family shares that name.” The more we thought of it, the more we liked the name Daniel. And of course Brooke kept on trying to convince us that this was the name. In the end, we caved in... OK, we liked the name Daniel, too. CKICK HERE for more of this story.
Baby Names Only a Mother Could Love
BNG BLOG
Do you like your name? If so, your mother did a great job. Personally, I've ran into my share of people that were given some really bad names. My next question is... what makes a bad name? There are three ways to determine a bad name. First, does the name have another meaning that is undesirable. Some names are also ordinary words with completely different slang meanings. A GOOD example would be the name Brooke. It's a great name, which means... “small stream”. The second way to determine a bad name is to look at the names history. Through history names can become tarnished and if this happens, a name can become a bad name to choose for your child. Some names can be worse than others. Example, you may not want to name your child... “Tiger” anytime soon. The third way to determine a bad name is to look at both the first name and the last name. A combination of names can make a funny statement about someone. It reminds me of the movie, “Meet the Parents”. Ben Stiller's character in the movie was called Gaylord Focker. Sometimes this can be good, I met someone that was named James Bond. That would be a great name.
