Praying With My Kids

BNG BLOG
Posted on 11 May 2011 by BNG Staff

Article by Gary Petrie, BabyNameGuide.com

While I was growing up, prayer was not a daily activity in my household. We prayed at the dinner table, and for years I thought that was the extent of prayer. “Let thy food be nourishment to my body”, which I never really understood. It really got confusing when we went out of the house to eat, because we never prayed. Did that mean the meal was not good for my body? It wasn’t until years later when I went golfing with a friend that praying over a meal made sense to me. Praying over a meal isn’t about the meal, but that fact we give thanks to the Lord for being involved in every area of our lives.

Jacob has been the top male name since 1999. Prior to that, Michael was the number one name each year from 1964 to 1998 and Emily was the top female baby name each year from 1996 to 2009. This year Isabella became the most popular baby name for girls, followed by Sophia.

Five of the top boy names are of Hebrew origin which shows that America is definitely leaning towards religious names when it comes to their little guy in blue. While the girls names have a more international flare. The list from the Social Security Administration came out with its list of top baby names for 2010 and here are the top 10 boy and girl names.

Is Grandma Spoiling Your Children?

BNG BLOG
Posted on 02 May 2011 by BNG Staff

Article by Gary Petrie, BabyNameGuide.com

I ask the question, “Is grandma spoiling your children?” Before this question can be answered, you first have to dig very deep within your memory banks to remember your own upbringing and the time you spent with your grandmother. I remember going over to my grandparents when I was just a little squirt about knee high to my grandma Petrie. The two things about her that bring back memories are, she was so nice and she was such a great cook. What I remember most about my grandma’s cooking was her corn soup and the great pies she made. I was never much of a pie eater, I’m more of a cake eater, but her pies were the best. There was something else she was great at and that was spoiling me. She made it so easy for me to love her because she was so nice to me. She actually had her own nickname for me, Smiley. I think she called me that because every time she did, it actually made me smile. It doesn’t matter how sad I was, she could make a smile appear on my face in an instant. I’m not sure that my grandma actually spoiled me; I just remember her always treating me special. She was one of the loveliest people I have ever known. Today I am 42 and have three children of my own. My kids are very lucky to have a wonderful grandma too.

Create A Hospital Check List

BNG BLOG
Posted on 27 Feb 2011 by BNG Staff

I remember going to the hospital for our first child. I was so unprepared. I remembered somethings, but forgot some important items as well. I forgot a pen and pencil to write down my child's weight, height, etc. I also forgot some phone numbers and a video camera. I did bring the video the next day, but it would have been nice to have a video camera the evening our daughter was born. For our next two children I was prepared, because I made a list of items needed for our hospital stay.

Are You the Black Sheep in Your Family?

BNG BLOG
Posted on 27 Feb 2011 by BNG Staff

An article I read online made me think of this question, “Are you the black sheep in your family?” I think sometime or another most people consider themselves the black sheep of their family. You could be the Black Sheep in your family, but it doesn't always mean that you're looked upon as being bad, just different.
