The Lazy Men of Summer

BNG BLOG
Posted on 08 Jul 2010 by BNG Staff

First of all, let me start by saying... “sometimes I have nothing better to do with my time.” My story goes back a couple years. Two years ago while I was driving down the road I noticed an elderly woman mowing her yard. I didn't think much of it at the time. But I really felt sorry for the lady, because she looked exhausted and she was old. Over the past couple years, for some odd reason I've seen more women mowing yards than men. This year though, I decided to keep count. I told you I have nothing better to do with my time. Actually, my wife and I drive our kids around to a lot of activities during the summer, and I have to pass the time somehow. That's when it hit me! Men do mow lawns, but with riding lawn mowers. The woman are the ones with the push lawn mowers.

I read an article a while back and in the article this lady said, “Mowing the lawn was a great escape.” She went on to say, “ It's one of the few times I couldn't hear a baby crying.” She also said that she could daydream. It's possible that all the women I saw mowing their yards wanted to do it for similar reasons. And maybe the woman in the article was on a riding lawn mower, but my research suggest otherwise. My own research showed that 80% of the time, when I saw a lawn mower being pushed there was a woman behind the reins. And a whopping 90% of the time, when I saw a riding lawn mower it was a man behind the wheel. Now, I'm sure that there are people amongst you that will dispute my findings. But if you're a woman and you push a lawn mower, let me know why.

In summary, I believe a lot of men are becoming more and more lazy at home. I read another article the other day about this lady who mowed the lawn, because her husband would work double shifts every so often. I myself have always mowed my own yard with a push lawn mower. One more thing and this relates to names. I can't post an article unless it does. I looked up lazy on Baby Name Guide, just to see if there is a name with that meaning. Yes, there is... Segenam. The name means just that, “LAZY”. By the way, it's a male name.
