The Wooden Bowl

Article Unkown, BabyNameGuide.com

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about grandfather," said the son. I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather's direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

Click Here for the rest of the story.

One day a family friend said, “WOW you’re really big, you must be ready to POP!” You can only imagine how depressed I was since I was only seven months along. It made me think, I’ve got two more months to go, how many more not so nice things am I going to hear. Every woman who has been, is or will be pregnant will run into that person that will say that thing that offends. I’m talking about that person who is trying to make a joke at your expense, insults you or has an opinion about YOUR pregnancy. So for all you ladies who are moms or moms to be, here is a list of some things that you never say to a pregnant woman. Some may be amusing and some are downright rude.

Praying With My Kids

We prayed at the dinner table, and for years I thought that was the extent of prayer. “Let thy food be nourishment to my body”, which I never really understood. It really got confusing when we went out of the house to eat, because we never prayed. Did that mean the meal was not good for my body? It wasn’t until years later when I went golfing with a friend that praying over a meal made sense to me. Praying over a meal isn’t about the meal, but that fact we give thanks to the Lord for being involved in every area of our lives.

Click Here for the rest of the article.

Is Grandma Spoiling Your Children?

Article by Gary Petrie, BabyNameGuide.com

I ask the question, “Is grandma spoiling your children?” Before this question can be answered, you first have to dig very deep within your memory banks to remember your own upbringing and the time you spent with your grandmother. I remember going over to my grandparents when I was just a little squirt about knee high to my grandma Petrie. The two things about her that bring back memories are, she was so nice and she was such a great cook. What I remember most about my grandma’s cooking was her corn soup and the great pies she made. I was never much of a pie eater, I’m more of a cake eater, but her pies were the best. There was something else she was great at and that was spoiling me. She made it so easy for me to love her because she was so nice to me. She actually had her own nickname for me, Smiley. I think she called me that because every time she did, it actually made me smile. It doesn’t matter how sad I was, she could make a smile appear on my face in an instant. I’m not sure that my grandma actually spoiled me; I just remember her always treating me special. She was one of the loveliest people I have ever known. Today I am 42 and have three children of my own. My kids are very lucky to have a wonderful grandma too.

Click Here for the rest of the article.

I remember going to the hospital for our first child. I was so unprepared. I remembered somethings, but forgot some important items as well. I forgot a pen and pencil to write down my child's weight, height, etc. I also forgot some phone numbers and a video camera. I did bring the video the next day, but it would have been nice to have a video camera the evening our daughter was born. For our next two children I was prepared, because I made a list of items needed for our hospital stay.

Click Here for things you may need for the hospital.

You could be the Black Sheep in your family, but it doesn't always mean that you're looked upon as being bad, just different.

Click here for the rest of the article.

Drop-Side Cribs Outlawed

WASHINGTON - It's the end of the traditional crib that has cradled millions of babies for generations.

The government outlawed drop-side cribs on Wednesday after the deaths of more than 30 infants and toddlers in the past decade and millions of recalls.

It was a unanimous vote by the Consumer Product Safety Commission to ban the manufacture, sale and resale of the cribs, which have a side rail that moves up and down, allowing parents to more easily lift their child from the crib.

The new standard requiring cribs to have fixed sides would take effect in June. The move by CPSC would also prohibit hotels and childcare centers from using drop-sides, though those facilities would have two years to purchase new cribs. CLICK HERE for more info.
