Fibber McGee's Closet... What?

Posted on 25 Sep 2009 by BNG Staff

For years my mother would say, "your room looks like Fibber McGee's closet." I would think, what the heck was she talking about. I found out that Fibber McGee and Molly was a long running radio show from 1935 to 1959. I was thinking, "why would the main character's name be Fibber." I realized that this was not his first name, but a adjective describing his character. With that in mine, back in the thirties, forties and fifties fibber was more of a jokester, not a liar.

Some of the other characters in the series included Molly, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, Foggy Williams, Wallace Wimple, Nick Depopoulous and Millicent Carstairs. There are some really weird names from this show.

Oh, by the way... Fibber McGee's closet was supposedly a mess and every time he opened it, house hold clutter would fall all over him and Molly. After all these years my room still looks like Fiber McGee's closet. Does yours?

Celebrities, the trendsetters or not

Posted on 24 Sep 2009 by BNG Staff

Unique, creative and sometimes crazy are ways to describe some of the celebrity baby names we hear. Many times we sit and wonder at why they do what they do, or take up water cooler talk at work. I mean, who in their right mind would name their child Audio, Seven or Bluebell. These names are taking creativity to a new level. Sometimes celebrities seem to be naming their children like pets and giving them names that just do not make sense. I understand why they do it. They want to be different and the whole world is waiting for them to name their child. Some will say... most of the time it's vanity.

When Tom and Katie named their child that was the only thing you heard during the eleven o'clock news. What surprised me was that the name Suri was actually a good name choice. Now, if all the other celebs would follow suit. But, I'm sure that in the future you will be enlightened by names like Mud, Nuts and Toast. I'd bet my digital camera on it. All that's right -- Camera is a celeb baby name, too.
